I am developing a modular retail stand around a desktop printer's build volume, translating the client's visual direction into dimensions, part divisions and an assembly strategy.
The brief
The stand needed bead compartments, strap storage, a branded header and space for small kit boxes. Individual parts had to fit a Bambu P2S, while the assembled display needed to be useful on a retail counter.
How it went
Convert visual ideas into a layout
I created a low-fidelity stand model and dimensioned component views. When the client asked for a narrower display, I proposed a width around 32 cm in relation to the box storage and compartment needs.
Define ownership as the brief changes
The client produced their own box designs. I reviewed their files, proposed lid and logo refinements, and agreed a reduced scope and fee rather than claiming the boxes as entirely my work.
Develop the assembly
After concept approval, I worked on the wavy outer frame, header and support structure. The latest documented solution uses a six-part backboard joined with pegs, with revised branding and strap-peg attachment details.
The decision I would defend
The central design problem is splitting a visually coherent object into replaceable printer-sized parts while preserving practical assembly.
Outcome
The concept milestone was approved on 21 October. Detailed CAD and connector development were still underway on 28 October; the final package and fit-test acceptance are not yet documented.
Delivered
- Approved concept presentation
- Dimensioned component and stand views
- CAD progress images and proposed peg connections
Scope and limits
This is ongoing work, not a completed retail product. Stability, connector tests, final file delivery and production efficiency remain to be confirmed. The client’s box designs are credited to the client.
